I LOVED the whole idea of them asking for a last Hunger games, because it made you realise how easy it was for it to happen the first time. When she proposed it I was like 'NO WAY'. But then later I was like 'Well it would stop the capitol taking control again because they know their children will get hurt...'.
I think its was stupid that Katniss agreed, and that was totally out of character. But still I liked how she slipped it in there.
I thought it was very interesting as well that Collins put that in there, but I think she knew by then what she might have to do and that was to kill Coin, so it really didn’t matter at that point how she voted. Just my theory :)
Exactly. Of course, through most of the book, we just think that Coin's severe, that she does have the good of the districts in mind. That was an interesting twist, and I love how Collins compared the supposed good guy to the villain. I mean, I love the stories themselves of course, but I also really like the way Collins portrays it all. Being the nerd that I am, I love stuff like that. Haha.
Exactly. I mean, I understand Coin's motives. Granted, they weren't good, but I do get it. It's like revenge for the Capitol killing off the districts' children.
Another thing I like about the series — in most books about rebellion, the hero or heroine can't WAIT to go crush The Man. But Katniss is afraid of it for most of the series. Even when she does decide to do something about the Capitol, it's almost halfhearted. It's something I've always liked because it's so different from the usual.
It makes sense, and after all the suffering people went through, no doubt they want some revenge. However rebelling happened so everyone could live a life without that mentality, and Coin succumbed to that greed of revenge.
I so agree with you. It is what makes The Hunger Games trilogy so different. There is not one but two villains. Coin is the leader of the rebellion unfortunately so it is known that she is in charge. She is all the rebellion has, because Snow is the known enemy. Katniss hates her guts, but because she just wants the rebellion to survive so she doesn’t do anything. It’s such a complicated situation, and she never really gets a chance to get rid of Coin until the assassination of Snow.
I literally just thought of this but:
Why would Cinna have asked to help District 12. At the beginning, no one knew that they would be the faces of the revolution or anything, so what motivation could he have had?
I think Cinna knew that of all the districts, 12 was the most rebellious. Given they are a small community, but they quite possibly have the most difficult lifestyle, and whenever a tribute that is chosen is 12 years old, no one cheers, and no one is happy because they know how unfair and wrong it is. I think Cinna knew that tributes from 12 were the extreme underdogs, the poorest of the districts, and did not by any means really have allegiance to the Capitol.
It just gets that much more epic in Mockingjay. From book one, I was hoping to God there would be another rebellion because I wanted to see it, and more importantly wanted to see Katniss leading everyone. This pretty much happens in Mockingjay, so I was pleased about that. Mockingjay all the way. :D
IT IS COMPLETELY HEARTBREAKING! I'm like PEETA WHAT ARE YOU DOING! and then when he called her a mutt I was like 'I can't take this anymore." Someone kill president snow before I do, please.
LOL totally. What I love about Collins is that she has a great ability to make a great story, and really keep us invested in said story. What you are feeling is exactly how you are supposed to feel: heartbroken. However it makes the ending all that much better.
okayy so this is what i interpreted and dont call em a sicko if im wrong lol. but did President snow do things with Finnick.. like you said and the book says snow payed him with secrets so did finnick have to do things with him? and only in the capitol this happened right no one from the districts knew
No one from the districts knew, this only went on in the Capitol. Finnick learned these secrets about Snow from other people (mostly Government officials I’m sure) who hired Finnick for his “services”. Now the question you asked, Did Snow take advantage of Finnick’s “services”? We may never know. However, it is incredibly possible as so it seems that whatever Snow wants he gets. It’s something I’d rather not think about, but yes, it is definitely possible.
alright. what the fuck is going on right now! oh my goodness. okay so im at this part where katniss and finnick are making a propo i believe to distract president snow so the rescue team can come in. and what is finnick saying? he sold his body for secrets? I don't get it at all -___- can you explain please?
Finnick is splurging all of Snow’s secrets. Secrets noone knows and that reveal the monster he is. How does Finnick know this? Because when he became a victor, it was known he was attractive and people loved him. So the Capitol used him.
Now this next part is really gross and in my opinion, not really for anyone under 15, but I’m going to level with you here. When the book says they sold his body for secrets, the Capitol basically made Finnick a prostitute against his will. Instead of paying Finnick with money, he made pay by telling him government secrets. This is how Finnick knows all the stuff about Snow.
You probably can’t even imagine the horrible demons Finnick probably has because of this terrifying truth. It’s kind of what makes Finnick a great character. He’s charming, funny, and nice, but he doesn’t have it all. He has a dark past of pain and suffering, and that makes him real.
all I can say about Mockingjay right now. Is what is even going on with Peeta omg. I never expected the capitol to go this far to do this to him.. When he went after Katniss my jaw was on the floor haha. Whats up with the tracker jacker venom though?
There’s no line the Capitol won’t cross. THEY’RE EVIL!!! When Peeta put his hands on Katniss’ throat I was so freaked out and then heartbroken. I was hoping so hard that the old Peeta would come back.
The tracker venom is part of the “hijacking” process. They injected it into Peeta, and since the venom makes you hallucinate, they made Peeta have anti-Katniss hallucinations, basically.
Sorry I always comment you but none of my friends have read the Hunger Games.
I kept crying during the opening ceremony in the first book because they were all so lovely and beautiful and I knew that they might die. So I would like randomly burst into tears at that!
One of my friends just read the series and my boyfriend is reading the first one now. But that was only til recently. I started this because at the time I had NO ONE to talk to about it. So don’t worry :)
That whole book I was just in constant fear because I didn’t want either of them to die but knew how extremely likely it was that anyone of them could go at any second.
okay that scene where katniss broke down when she found out what they were doing to peeta and got knocked out with the medicine cause she went hystercal. ALMOST made me full on cry. Just letting you know.
haha I love to hear it! It’s nice to hear what moments really got to people.
I’ve seen stuff on the Internet of Gale and Madge. I get the feeling that they have a huge age difference, and I guess we just don’t know enough about Madge’s character so the thought of them together strikes me as odd.
I totally agree. It came out of the blue, really. But it was good, in the end. She would have just done what Snow did, except, not as creepy. No prostitution or poisonings, I bet. Haha. But still, she would have taken hold of the districts and squeezed the life out of them.
Exactly. Anyone who even thinks another Hunger Games would be a somewhat good idea in that position of power needed to go. It’s exactly what everyone was fighting AGAINST.
:D I think I’ll do it once I reread the series again which I imagine will be very soon.
God the movie is SOOOOOO FAAAAR from now it makes me sad. Let me just say that as of right now it’s gonna be a long time until the movie comes out. But hey, production schedules change so it’s not set stone. That’s all I can say about that.
- Submit your Hunger Games themed Halloween costumes
-Submit your own fan art OR tell me what scene you would like to see as fan art.
After I finish this Hunger Games meme I’ve been working on, I’ve been contemplating doing some of my own fan art. It won’t be as awesome as some of the ones I’ve posted, but it’ll be decent. At least I’m hoping so. :D
The submit link doesn't seem to work on your page. @_@
Thought you might want to take a look at this---there is actually even an unofficial soundtrack for The Hunger Games out!
Oh thanks for letting me know! I fixed it just now, so let me know if it still doesn’t work. It should though.
OH MY GOD THE UNOFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK IS SO COOL. I’m going to try and get my hands on it sometime. I listened to the samples on the amazon website, and I really loved what I heard. Thanks for pointing it out!
yeah i figured out who the insects were when i read some more :x guess i should do that before i bother you with more questions ahha. But yeah thats right I forgot about the uprisings that went on during catching fire -___- I really like it so far:) just saying. I miss Peeta though and cinna.
That’s okay, I don’t mind questions! Just be careful on this blog and other blogs, being spoiled sucks.
SPOILER i guess
Why are all the districts put under attack in Mockingjay? I thought it was just district12 that suffered and 13.
and what are "the insects.
The Capitol made District 12 an example by destroying it just like they did 13. Why would they do this? Because all the other districts are also uprising. Well, most of them anyway. These rebellions started in Catching Fire (which is why it is called “Catching Fire”. It is the spirit of the rebellion that spreads to the other districts. Katniss is the spark). That’s why in the second book certain items start becoming unavailable to the capitol: those are the districts that are starting to rebel. After the arena is blown up, all hell breaks loose pretty much. Starting from this point and all during Mockingjay, most of the districts are in full scale rebellion. That’s why they too are under attack.
The “insects” are Katniss’ name for the camera crew that follows her in her missions. She calls them this because they have a sort of a shell surrounding them (I think it’s for protection) which sort of resemble an insect. I’m assuming these are the “insects” you are referring to?
Thank you. :) Your answers are always amazing, too!
It's just everything about that book. I adore it. Katniss gets Gale back as her best friend, she ends up with someone who's genuinely good for her, the obvious villain and the more hidden villain are both defeated, and, of course, it has some of the funniest scenes.
YES!!! Everything you said. Awesome. :D :D
I do have to admit that I didn’t see her killing Coin coming. But I’m so glad she did because no one could have been free or safe with that psycho bitch running the country.
I don’t know a lot about common Hunger Games pairings aside from the ones in the book, but if I had to pick one I didn’t like I guess it would have to be Katniss and Gale. I do like Gale, I just didn’t really seem to like them together because whenever they had a nice special moment it almost always seemed to end up in an argument.
What are you’re guys’ least favorite pairing? Aside from Peeta/Katniss or Gale/Katniss. I just would like to know if you guys liked a certain pairing not really mentioned in the books. Let me know!
I agree — I think Mockingjay is the best book, too. And I love that part of Collins' message.
When people read it, I think they just see the termination of the good things in Katniss's life. But those characters all leave behind a legacy — physical, tangible hope. Finnick leaves behind a child. Boggs leaves a team more willing to do something rash and willing to change things in a more powerful way. Coin paves the way for a new country in her death. And Prim leaves Buttercup. True, it's nothing major, but still, it's something. And the series ends with hope. Peeta and Katniss have children, wandering in the Meadow, and they won't have to compete. It's beautiful, I think.
What do you think should be going on musically with the Hunger Games movie? Soundtrack, score, ect.
My opinion: I’ve listened to a lot of movie scores in my life, and I feel they are always the way to go especially if the story is really intense. A movie is not a movie without a score. I feel like this would make a better movie.
As for a composer? Well, my highest hopes would be John Williams.
For those who don’t know, John Williams is one of the most well known and greatest film composers ever. He gave us the music to the first three Harry Potter movies, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, ET, ect. He has a knack for coming up with recognizable melodies that represent characters, pairings, and events in film.
I don’t know how good a chance there is of him taking the helm of The Hunger Games, but I feel with a story so powerful and intense, he would be the man to do the job.
It’s cool if you find fan art and post it on your Tumblr, that’s fine. We all have access to the same Internet. I don’t own shit. But don’t just save a picture you found on this Tumblr and put on yours like you found it. That’s what reblogging is for.
I look for new fan art, news, anything I can find for this blog every day if I can. I try and run a good blog. So when I see a picture I put up on a tumblr minutes after I did, I get a little suspicious. Hell, I can’t prove anything, and I can’t make you do anything. I’m just asking nicely if you’ll just reblog it instead. Normally if this was my personal blog I wouldn’t care, but I’m trying to make this blog as successful as I can and reblogging does help spread the word around. :D
oh okay thank you so much.
but one more thing why is it not real?
It’s not real cause it’s a commercial. Just like any other movie or tv show, they have a set and have fabricated what they want the cameras to capture. It’s also being shot all within the comfort of their underground base in District 13. It’s is this reason that Katniss unable to really make an emotional connection with the cameras.
Even when she tries to attempt to make it work Haymitch says, “And that, my friends, is how a revolution dies”.
After that they only film Katniss when she is out and about in Panem. In battle, when they walk around what’s left of District 12, even during Katniss’ mission to assassinate President Snow.
in mockingjay, what are they preparing for at the beginning with the makeup and the mockingjaay costume where Katniss has that bow while they are praticing for live cameras and she says that one line... i dont get what they're doing. I know theres a rebellion going on between the rebels and the capitol. but im confused :( help
What they are doing is basically filming a television commercial to get support in the other districts for the rebellion. But because the whole thing is fabricated and not real, it makes it really difficult for Katniss to “act”. When she does deliver her line, it just doesn’t work. It’s not real enough and it makes Katniss feel kind of silly doing it. That’s why they decide to actual film while going into battle and such because Haymitch points out that all of Katniss’ best moments happened because they were all REAL.
