Hopefully they do an open casting call because there are a ton of really good actors in the world that just dont have the money to get professional help. I told a few of my close friends i wanted to try out for a movie and they loved the idea. I really want to try out for the part of katniss...i dont have black/brown hair but thats a simple costume/ makeup change. Honestly i believe i could do it and make hunger game fans, much like myself, very happy. Sorry to go anonymus but i dont want people going on my page, knowing who i am, and critizing me if they dont think i can get it. Im trying to be strong and honestly i apoligize for my all about me and casting rant. I just really wish for open auditions, and im hoping casting isnt exclusive to california like it is right now. Im just a dreamer!
YOU GO DREAM, GIRL!!! I really hope there is some kind of open casting call. So many people like yourselves want an opportunity to show the casting directors what they can do. There is a possibility they might not do an open call, but if I see ANYTHING (of course I’ll make sure it’s legit, I don’t want anyone getting screwed) I’ll be sure to post it. But if they don’t end up doing an open casting call, don’t lose hope. If acting is something you wanna do, GO FOR IT. You’re young, so anything you’ve wanted to try, go do it. You’ve got nothing to lose. If you start now and work hard, you could get yourself to the point where you can score an actual audition for other roles in the other future Hunger Games movies! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
Discussion #4: How come in CF the cannon fires RIGHT after death for everyone except when Peeta's heart stopped?
barayasthespider answered: Okay I thought of one thanks to MarkReads. How come in CF the cannon fires RIGHT after death for every1…except when Peeta heart stopped?
Well, I guess it’s anyone’s guess but my answer would be that the cannon doesn’t fire unless they are pronounced dead. Meaning, fully dead. Peeta’s heart may have stopped, but his life could have totally been in a place between life and death. Any longer without being revived, and theoretically the cannon would have gone off for sure.
If you guys have more detailed answers, or wanna pose another discussion question to talk about, go ahead and ASK!
Well, as the movie is going ahead, I suppose I'd best share my idea with the rest of the world -cries-
I was gonna save it to e-mail it to like, susan or something as a suggestion for the movie, but, here;
you also have to remember that the movies supposed to come out in 2012 so hailee will probably be a little older than she is now
unless they are filming asap
but I mean, they haven't even cast the film yet so..
Well, they’ll definitely be filming in Spring or Summer, which means if she did score the part she’ll still be 14 during filming. I can’t wait til the cast is picked and everything so we don’t have to spend our time speculating. I just wanna know already!
Agreed, they're both too young. I think Lindsy Fonseca would make the best katniss. but I guess we'll have to wait and see! (: 420 days.. Too far away!
I really like her. She has received the script too! Assuming it didn’t end up being unknowns, I’d be cool with her.
It’s more than a year away, but it’s nice to know they are starting things soon! Hopefully they budget their time well so they are not rushing to get the movie finished on time. I would hate for that production to feel rushed, I don’t want anything getting in the way of making it as good a film as it could possibly be.
noo malese jow would be a terrible katniss! i hope she doesn't get the part. she's too sweet looking, and too curvy to pull it off.
I’ve been hearing a lot of that lately! I really don’t want Chloe Moretz as Katniss. I think she’s way too young. She’s a year younger than Hailee Steinfeld, and Hailee Steinfeld is as young as I’m willing to go.
What do you think about Kaya Scodelario playing Katniss in the new movie? I don't know if they've already cast someone, but I think she would be a good pick.
I know she’s the fan favorite, and I’d be okay with her, but I dunno if she was born to play that role. Most of the actresses fans would like to see as Katniss for the most part, would do okay as the role. However, I want Debra Zane to find the person who was born to play Katniss. In casting, that’s what they aim for. The right person. However, whether it be time or other conditions, most roles never get cast perfectly. Because HG is so important to me, I hope they find that one person who was BORN to play Katniss. Who knows? Maybe that one person is Kaya Scodelario. All I’m saying is, I trust Debra Zane and all others who are involved in the casting process to find the right person.
This makes me a sad panda. I really wanted him to play Haymitch, but of course here in Hollywood nothing is set in stone. If Robert Downey Jr. gets the role, I’d be totally cool with that. Who knows? Maybe they’ll cast a completely different person altogether…
Zac Effron as Finnick? He's hot you can't deny that.
Wouldn’t be opposed. Zac Efron can actually act and can actually do comedy. After I watched 17 Again and all the SNL’s he’s been on, I’ve become sold on his acting ability. Whoever does end up playing Finnick, has to be able to be amusing and Zac Effron has a Finnick body, so I’d be for it. However, not 100% sure he IS finnick. (just like I’m not totally sure Hailee Steinfeld IS Katniss.) There are actors who could play the part and there are actors who were born to be that character. It’s the casting director’s job to find that person. This goes for all the big roles in Hunger Games.
A lot of people are talking about their favorite (or lack of favorite) actor for Peeta, I see xD
For him, lookswise, I totally see Austin Butler, but I'm not entirely sure about his acting skills on such a big role...thoughts?
&&I don't know who should play FINNICK, but i think I will die if it's someone whom I find unattractive xD
I agree with you about Austin Butler. He looks the part enough for me, however I see he’s done mostly kid shows. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the acting chops, I just don’t know if he could take on such a huge role. That’s the problem with picking an actor to play the big roles. Finding the balance between looking the part and being able to act the part.
As for Finnick, I am sure they will find someone HIGHLY attractive since it’s a big aspect of his character. However, that doesn’t guarantee it’ll be someone YOU necessarily find attractive, I just know he’ll have to be some level of attractive, LOL.
Article says they wanna create a “level playing field” for all kinds of actors interested in auditioning for HG. However, it also said they are likely to use “professional channels” for auditions. This doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t do an Open casting call, but we’re just going to have to see. If they do end up doing an open casting call, I’ll post it here ASAP.
Hailee Steinfeld would be good for Prim, not Katniss, but Kaya or Lyndsy would both be good for her. Kristin Chenoweth is too old though, I think. Reese Witherspoon would be perfect imo.
AND OMG Hugh Laurie would be so perfect for Haymitch! I really hope they pick him. Also don't you think Adrien Grenier would be great to play Gale? He's a little old, but with makeup and editing I'm sure they could pull it off. He has that perfect olive complexion that Suzanne Collins described in the books.
I think she’d be excellent for Prim. Kristen Chenoweth, however does not look that old. Effie’s age isn’t identified in the books anyway, but we know she’s on the younger side. As for Adrien Grenier, although he’s a good actor, I think he’s way too old. He’s in his 30’s and I think the oldest someone should be to play one of the kids is like 25.
um honestly, I think Liam Hemsworth is too hot to play Peeta, plus he's just not a very good actor. Peeta's supposed to be like more down-to-earth and funny and I don't think Liam could pull that off..
Are there any other rumors as to who will be playing different roles?? (Sorry I'm anonymous, I don't have a tumblr lol)
Agreed. Here are the most popular fan favorites:
Peeta: hunter parrish, there are others too, I just can’t remember at the moment
Katniss: Kaya Scodelario, Lindsay Fonseca (she has actually received the script), and there’s a long list of other Katniss hopefuls
Hailee Steinfeld is interested in playing the role too as of recently. However, Gary Ross said that there are no front runners currently so it could be an unknown (which I’m hoping for), or it could be a fan favorite since Gary Ross is really interested in making sure the fans are happy with it. It could go any way.
Also, Kristen Chenoweth is a big fan favorite to play Effie, and I think Gary Ross might end up choosing between Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Laurie for Haymitch.
Do you think that there's any chance Liam will play Finnick? Because that's probably the only character that I wouldn't completely dislike him as. I'm not his biggest fan, and I just don't think he would fit as Peeta or Gale.
That’s the only other character I can think of him as. Since we have to see how well the movie does before Catching Fire can even be thought about doing, then I would for sure consider him for that part.
I don't like Liam as Peeta at all...For one thing, he looks too old. For another, he's not even a good actor. His performance in The Last Song was mediocre. I can’t imagine him playing Peeta.
Yea when I saw on IMDB that he was in the movie, I became really nervous about his acting ability.
For me it seemed really obvious that Katniss loved Peeta and referring to your response to just-me-lexibee, I completely agree that she was so distracted by major issues like I don't know, unintentionally starting a revolution, to realize her feelings. Also she has pushed her emotions aside forever, seen through her relationship with her mother and is not the kind of person to vocalize and truly understand her feelings.
ANYWAYS. I was talking to someone who read the series and he brought up a great point about how interesting it was that Katniss and Peeta switched stereotypical roles, Peeta being the baker and Katniss the strong, badass. But then with the epilogue she kind of steps into that maternal role. He thought that the epilogue was unnecessary, and I sort of agreed except I am such a sucker for happy endings and romance in general. He also thought it would have been fine to not specify who Katniss ended up with, again my chick flick side was jumping on my bed/crying when she talked about how she loved Peeta. So I was curious about your thoughts!
Sorry for the long rant, I found that the Hunger Games makes me go a lil crazy.
Loved your thoughts! I loved what you said about them switching typical roles. As for the epilogue, it was PARAMOUNT you found out who she ended up with. Story has a thing called set up and pay off. Finding out who she ended with was the pay off. Not to mention the angry mob that would form soon after everyone finished Mockingjay. You can’t dick around with the readers for that long with the main character unsure about who she wants to be with and then NOT tell the readers who she ends up with. That being said, although I love how their roles are switched, I don’t have a problem with the epilogue. I feel, although it is a typical woman role, that being a mother is the epitome of strong. Not to mention, you want to see Katniss living her life. After all that happened, after all those people died, there is something to be said about creating life. The fact that Katniss agreed to have children isn’t so much about her going into a matron role, but the fact that out of the war and ashes, she created life.
I actually rather dislike the idea that nothing is new. Yeah, you're likely to come up with an idea somebody else has already done, but I firmly believe that people have the creativity and the imagination to take things farther. I mean look at Tolkien. His work--not even a century old--was incredibly groundbreaking stuff, the likes of which the world had not seen before. That was not too long ago, so I firmly believe imagination can go further, we just don't know where it will take us yet. It makes me sad when people seem resigned to the idea that nothing new will ever come about because if too many people get that in their heads it might actually become a reality.
Erm. Just saying. I love The Hunger Games, though.
You are right, the imagination can totally go further. I’m just saying that most stories have stemmed from very very old stories. Every story, thought totally new and still unique, have something in common with another story most likely thought of 50 years, 100 years, maybe even centuries ago. Every story has a theme, what it generally is about, and that story if you look very broadly has been conceived. Sometimes people aren’t even aware that the general frame of the story has been told. However, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. General story, love story, struggle against government, ect. might be examples of stories that have been done over the years. It’s imagination that creates how people tell the story, how they frame their characters, and the details that make it a new story. Tolkien is the ultimate example of this. He was inspired by many things as he molded Lord of the Rings, yet even though he had other stories in mind, he still make Lord of the Rings completely his own, and completely new.
I have seen battle royale and I love it.
But I think Hunger Games does it way better.
Like you said, they have similar themes, but they are entirely different. There is no such thing as a "new" idea, only good ones. And creativity IS recreation, not imitation.
So with that I think Collins did an amazing job with her books, and I do not consider it a rip off in any way.
Exactly. Love your comment on creativity being recreation not imitation. Thanks for sharing!
Hi. Thanks for answering my questions earlier!
I think the element of violence is pretty much the same, maybe a tad more graphic because in THG there's younger children. There's some characters I liked more in BR than THG, but that doesn't stop THG being a stand-out on its own. The protagonists in both BR and THG are leading a rebellion as well (If I don't remember incorrectly...) and invoke the same kind of feelings when I'm reading/watching them. I think they are both unique on their own.
