So, ugh, Did Peeta and Katniss almost "made out" in Catching Fire?
I don’t think so. During their big one on one conversation in the arena, they pretty much get all the kissing they want. This is where Katniss discussed that “thing” she felt in the cave where she wants more. She also mentions “no one interrupts us this time.”
We’ve changed our Tumblr name from FuckYeahDistrict12 to Welcome-To-District-12. This was the origin of Welcome To District 12, so naturally when I started this Tumblr, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to name it. Now that we are a little bit more established, and so we can stay all ages friendly, we’ve changed the URL to reflect that.
This is a great post, and I was pleasantly surprised to see of all people, it was our own Tiffany. If you have been in the fandom when casting news was happening, we were extremely adamant about unknowns being cast. Well, it looks as if, against all odds, we got our wish.
I have questions about the books: (sorry, I can't seem to enter a new line) 1) In THG/CF, when does Peeta lie and when does he not (excluding the pregnancy news)? 2) Regarding Cinna, why does he choose District 12? If Katniss and Peeta were not the Tributes, would he do the same thing he did?
1) Could you be more specific?
2) As you know, Cinna says he asked for District 12. Given his actions in how he handles Katniss’ stylings, especially the wedding dress number in CF, I think it’s safe to say that Cinna does not agree with how the Capitol works and the oppression they inflict upon the districts. Cinna probably picks District 12 because the community of 12 is pretty rebellious, given the black market that exists, sympathetic peacekeepers, and the silence that follows the reaping results. they may comply with the Capitol, but it is clear they do not agree. This is why Cinna most likely chose District 12. Not that he knew Katniss would be the rebellious figure she became, but certainly gave him the opportunity to speak out. I think that if Peeta and Katniss weren’t the tributes, he still would have made them memorable. However, because Katniss did the nightlock stunt and became the symbol she did, it was a perfect opportunity for Cinna to rebel as well.
(Sometimes you post about actors' Non-HG movies, so I think this is okay) In a Paramount newsletter I received, the feature is on the movie "Like Crazy". It caught my attention because in the billing, Jennifer Lawrence was lthe only one labeled "Academy Award Nominee"! So what am I saying? It's got great reviews, and Jennifer Lawrence too, so maybe you're interested in seeing it. LikeCrazy. com
I (Tiffany) have seen it! I live in LA so we get limited release movies and Like Crazy was on my list of things to see for a while because the trailer was so great and I love Jennifer Lawrence’s acting.
The movie is kinda hipster and I was a bit hung up on the characters’ poor decisions, but I still liked it. Jennifer was THE BEST in it, in my (probably biased) opinion. She was only in it for a bit of the movie, but she did a great job and made her character, who could’ve easily been unlikable, very genuine and charming.
yeah that the boy was name finnick something and the girl i think was named rue primrose.
Well I just double checked, and she refers to her kids as “the girl” and “the boy”. Unless Suzanne said something in an interview, they don’t have names officially. HOWEVER, I would imagine that those names would be a good guess.
In response to your answer about why you think Katniss voted for another games: You are so right. Everything Katniss does is for a reason, and Haymitch understands that better than anyone. Rock on. I love your blog.
Thanks Dude. I appreciate it! I haven’t had hunger games discussion with my followers for some time. It is the core of my love for this trilogy! Rock on.
In response to how you liked the ending of Mockingjay- and I'll try to avoid spoilers in this- how did you feel about Katniss's vote regarding the future of the Games? I personally felt that it was extremely out of character for her.
Ah, I believe this to be Katniss’ true shining moment as the Mockingjay. So Coin leaves the choice up to the victors which I think is so she can absolve herself of any blame. Just my opinion.
Anyway, at this moment, Katniss confirms what she has suspected all along: Coin is just another Snow. To back that up, she just had a conversation with Snow that leads her to believe that the Capitol had nothing to do with hovercraft that ended the war. Immediately she goes into hunting mode. Katniss would do whatever necessary to keep this from happening.
It comes down to Katniss and Haymitch to vote and Katniss says “yes” much to the horror of Peeta. She agrees because she knows Coin wants her dead because of the power Katniss has over people of Panem. Power Coin does not have and never will. Katniss says these words: “For Prim.”
Why would Katniss agree to a Capitol children hunger games to avenge her sister who died saving Capitol children?
Because Katniss needs Coin to think she is on her side. It’s quite possible that Katniss would never have ended up in that square to assassinate Snow had she disagreed with Coin. It was no secret that Coin wanted Katniss dead.
So Haymitch says “yes” too. But he doesn’t say “I agree”. He says “I’m with The Mockingjay”. The face and true head of the rebellion. Haymitch and Katniss have had their own understanding of each other since the first book. Haymitch understood.
Of course, this is just one theory as to why Katniss says “yes”.
Personally, I don’t understand why people have been disappointed by the ending. It was as happy an ending that could have happened, but at the same time it wasn’t fairy tale. Gale leaving didn’t surprise me as it was typical of him to do so. He was full of guilt and knowing the way he took things when it came to Peeta, he didn’t seem like one to stick around and be there as Katniss’ friend with Peeta by her side. Actually, I’m sure many guys would have done the same thing as Gale. There’s no shame in that. So really, I thought the ending was perfect, exactly as it should be. It sustained the realism the entire trilogy emulates.
Wouldn't it make more sense for the split to be in Catching Fire? The first one would be about the victory tour and the second when they go back into the games? I just think its a more definite split than anywhere in Mockingjay.
Tiffany and I believe the best split is when they bring Peeta back in Mockingjay. Lots of stuff happens in Mockingjay, more importantly, lots of EXCITING things happen in Mockingjay so a split there is more plausible. If you were to split Catching Fire, the first half would not be as exciting as it needs to be to hold an audience for an entire movie. Some big stuff happens, but nowhere near enough to warrant a movie of it. Plus, they’d have to add more stuff in that first half of Catching Fire. I would much rather have the details of Mockingjay with multiple exciting scenes than the first half of the Catching Fire story with some new stuff thrown in. I think new stuff would be added in both scenarios, but there’s more source material to work from in Mockingjay than Catching Fire.
