Sometimes, being a fan of something ends up giving you amazing surprises. Because there are some things you expect from being in a fandom, things you “sing up for”, so to speak; like waiting for a next movie, a book release and all those things that are attached to every fanbase. But there are times in which the love for something, the appreciation for it, gives your path the chance to cross with the paths of other people who, like you, love that same thing. And, without being really looking for it, you become part of a fandom.
I’ve been in fandoms most of my life, maybe even from an age in which I was too young to grasp the entire meaning of what it was, and each fandom I’ve been in has its quirks and its things. But the Hunger Games fandom (which we named ‘Tributes’ some time ago in a poll that was mentioned in this very same Fireside Chat) keeps surprising me every day. And the most amazing people I met in this fandom, the people I admire the most in it, I met them through the Fireside Chat.
I tuned in very early on, around episode…4? 5? And was invited for the first time as a panelist in episode 9. The panelists of this podcast are some of the most talented, smart and interesting people I’ve met in any fandom I’ve been in. I have to be honest with you, sometimes I have trouble believing that you count me as an equal, because I learn from you and the things you say and do every day.
I admire the things you guys do, the projects you run, the work you go through every week (not only Adam and Savanna with every show but the regular panelists and their sites) but what I love and admire the most is how you always have a place for debate, for discussion, for thinking these books through, again and again, learning from them with every read and analysis. Because it is certain that these books should open a place for us to think and talk, to never be silent, and that is what you always provide. In a funny, friendly and entretaining way, I might add, which is never easy when it comes to books like these, which such a heavy story.
Maybe without a real intention, you guys became a guide for this fandom, indicating the way to go and giving fans a place to be heard. And I am so proud of what this podcast has become and so in awe with what you all do that I find it hard to convince myself that some of you have become my friends.
Even if we’re far away and I can’t go to those amazing premieres and events of yours, I feel I’m there with you because you represent the fans and do it well. I respect you all so much and I congratulate you every monday for the show but this time, being a special moment, I want to give a special and meaningful message.
I really love you all and I appreciate every time that you welcome me among you, that you think of me for some of your projects and that you are there every monday, for everyone to listen.
Happy 100 episodes, guys!
This is so touching! Congrats to #hgfiresidechat for their 100 episode milestone. So honored to have been a part of the best THG podcast around.
